Kiryo Beach (木料海岸) — A Pristine Sandy Shore

Kiryo Beach (木料海岸), located about a 5-minute drive from DAISEN UMIHOTARU, is a beloved local swimming spot in Daisen Town. Featuring an unspoiled sandy shore, this uncommercialized natural beach offers a private beach-like atmosphere. During summer, the beach comes alive with families and visitors. Basic shower facilities are available for swimmers. The sunsets here are particularly stunning, as the sun sinks into the Sea of Japan. It is the perfect spot for a family trip or a group outing with friends.

The most comfortable water temperatures of the year. Gentle waves make it ideal for families with small children.

Mikuriya Fishing Port (御来屋漁港) — Fresh Local Fish and Seafood

Located right next to DAISEN UMIHOTARU, Mikuriya Fishing Port (御来屋漁港) is an active fishing port where boats come and go daily. Inside the port, there is a fish market where you can purchase seafood freshly caught that very day. The selection ranges from premium sashimi-grade fish to small fish perfect for simmering. DAISEN UMIHOTARU also offers fishing gear for rent (paid), and boat fishing trips can be arranged. If you are interested, please contact us in advance so we can prepare everything for you.

Daisenji Temple & Ogamiyama Shrine — History and Autumn Foliage

About a 25-minute drive from DAISEN UMIHOTARU, Daisenji Temple is an ancient Buddhist temple designated as a National Important Cultural Property. As the center of Daisen worship, it has been cherished by many pilgrims and reveals different expressions with each season. Ancient trees line the approach, creating a deeply atmospheric forest setting. The autumn foliage season (mid-October to mid-November) is especially breathtaking, with the mountainside ablaze in vivid reds and golds. Combined with a visit to Ogamiyama Shrine, it makes for a quintessential historical and cultural experience in Daisen.

Daisen Makiba Milk no Sato — Farm Experiences and Gourmet Treats

About a 25-minute drive from DAISEN UMIHOTARU, Daisen Makiba Milk no Sato is a ranch spread across highland terrain at 900 meters above sea level. You can see free-range cattle up close. The rich, creamy soft-serve ice cream sold at the facility is beloved by many visitors. Cheese, butter, yogurt, and other dairy products are also available for purchase, making them popular souvenirs from Daisen. The location also offers stunning panoramic views of the Sea of Japan below.

Daisen Beech Forest Walk — Nature Strolls and Hiking

For those who want to experience Daisen's nature up close, we recommend the Daisen Beech Forest Walk. This trail winds through a forest of beech trees over 300 years old, with routes ranging from beginner-friendly to advanced. The fresh greenery season (May - June) and autumn (September - October) are the best times for nature observation.

Wild vegetable foraging is also available in spring, offering the unique experience of harvesting mountain delicacies and cooking them on the spot. Breathing deeply in the heart of nature is the perfect way to refresh your mind and body from the stresses of city life.
